P. lutea hybrid
Named after the Greek Goddess of Victory, ‘Nike’ is a very strong growing advanced lutea-hybrid which flower’s contain two rows of petals. The flower colour changes (develops) every day, and on some (hot) days even noticeably more frequent than that. Starting off with rich peach- and coral tones with manifesting very dark red flames at the base of the petals. In the fading process the colour spectrum changes towards more reddish, yellow and even beige. The dark central flames stand out ever more during this fading process, the golden yellow stamens in the middle adding to the contrast. Strong stems point de blooms upward and outward nicely above de dark green canopy. Happy mature plants can reach an impressive size.
We only carry tree peonies that we have tested extensively ourselves, and that have proven the ability to withstand several of our mostly nasty wet Dutch winters. Our collection of tree peonies characterizes itself by cultivars that all easily produce new ground shoots and easy flowering on first year branches, which holds promise for good performance even after the worst of winters.
All of our tree peonies are propagated by division only, and in fact no different than any of our other herbaceous and intersectional peonies. All our tree peonies do not have any foreign root, they are completely on their own roots!
This gives many advantages in comparison to the common way in which tree peonies are offered (grafted on a herbaceous nurse root). The main benefits include a flying start after planting, superior vigour and more than a fair chance on first year bloom already.
What’s more is that planting is just like for any herbaceous peony, which often proves to make the start a lot safer.
